Description:
One female lays 60 eggs. Incubation period is 5 days. Larval period lasts for 3 months. Pupal period is 14-19 days. Emergence of adults is during April.
Damage & Symptoms:
Adults feed on the bark of young trees at the age of 2-8 years old and lay eggs on the stem beneath the bark, near the ground level. Feeding and tunneling by larvae cause formation of a bulging canker all around the stem at which point the tree may break.
Control measures:
The grubs feed on roots. Apply phorate 10 g or carbofuran 3 g mixed with fine sand.
